Richards Bay to Nhlabane
8 February 2013 · 25km, 3hrs 11min
Waiting around in Richards Bay for a weather window brought on the pre-race butterflies, gone the moment I’m actually on the water. Split day 65 into two shorter days rather than one long one – 25km today, 36km to Mapelane on Friday.
Craig joined again; we left the harbour just after midday into a NE headwind rather than the forecast SW. At one point Craig’s tail-slipped ski went under my tail as I hit a bigger wave, knocking him into the water – no damage done. Wind and rain picked up through the afternoon (I don’t mind the rain, it cooled things down from 34 degrees), then cleared in the last 5km, the sea flattening back to a decent pace. A straightforward landing, timed well between sets.
On the drive back, a message reminding me Valentine’s Day is in 7 days and asking if I’ll be home in time – a fair question after this long away.
