Storms River to Eersterivier

A pleasant rest day at Storms River gave my back a well-deserved break, though I eventually had to dig into the pharmaceuticals for the first time to keep the pain manageable – a little massage from Judy helped too. While we were getting supper together, Richard Arderne called: Frans Loots had read the blog on Facebook and offered us a place to stay at Oubos, right next to Eersterivier.

I woke to a still, calm morning and was on the water by 4h40. The first two hours were normal aside from a slight head current. The last hour and a half turned into an increasing headwind that made progress painfully slow, but I got there. My shore team, now including our host Frans Loots, guided me in behind a reef to the beach – the paddler I’d spotted out there turned out to be Heinrich Schloms.

For lunch we snuck inland with our hostess Tanya Loots, who kept us entertained with her infectious laugh. Tonight we braai with the “Loots of Trouble” clan before setting out for Day 39 to Oyster Bay.
