Witsand Around Cape Point to Buffels Bay

The forecast was spot on, no wind in the early morning, then switching from south-east to westerly. The swell had flattened out so much that rounding the point I am sure I could have touched the rocks. Bianca Beavitt joined me and we made a comfortable average of 10km/h, stopping to paddle into the “cave” on the False Bay side, where the water was crystal clear to at least 12m down.

Warren radioed to check I was okay after I stopped to film near the lighthouse. He later admitted he’d become a bit of a tourist attraction himself up there, fielding questions from busloads of visitors about the paddler below.

After rounding the point I took the chance to paddle into the cave in the cliffs below the lighthouse before making my way to Buffels Bay. Just after leaving the cave the westerly picked up, good news for tomorrow’s False Bay crossing to Hangklip, which can’t be done in a south-easter.
